The environmentally friendly life cycle of steel products is important to us
Weckman’s goal is to produce steel products that are as environmentally friendly and reusable or recyclable as possible, with harmful environmental impacts minimized or completely eliminated throughout their entire life cycle. At the end of their service life, steel products can be recycled or reused.
In its environmental policy, Weckman is committed to complying with Finnish laws and regulations as well as official requirements. Weckman also takes into account international standards and requirements concerning the environment, environmental protection, waste management, packaging, and packaging waste.
Life Cycle Thinking
We consider the entire life cycle in our design. For example, halls can be used for multiple different purposes during their service life. We also continuously develop energy efficiency during both the construction phase and use.
The Foundation of Our Environmental Safety
High-quality raw materials and controlled processes are the starting point for our environmental safety. We design and manufacture environmentally safe products from steel raw materials suitable for construction and transport, supporting our customers’ business operations.
When developing our product and service range, we take into account our customers’ needs as well as environmental safety requirements. We work with reliable suppliers and favor companies that manage their environmental and social responsibility well.
Buildings and steel roofs from fossil-free steel
SSAB and Weckman Steel have entered into a partnership agreement for the supply of fossil-free steel. In the future, consumers will have the option to choose Weckman roofing sheets and steel halls made from fossil-free steel.
EPD Environmental Declaration Provides Reliable Information on Steel’s Environmental Impact
Weckman is committed to reducing environmental impact and wants to provide reliable information for sustainable development. The EPD environmental declaration is a voluntary standardized statement based on life cycle analysis that clarifies essential, verified, and comparable information about the manufactured product for builders, construction contractors, and designers.
GreenCoat® Paint-Coated Products
We offer the market’s most environmentally conscious GreenCoat® products. They use a bio-based coating in which traditional fossil oil has been replaced with Nordic rapeseed oil. GreenCoat® products meet the requirements of the REACH regulation and several environmental certificates. In addition, the quality steel used in them is 100% recyclable.
A Long-Lasting Choice
Steel is a durable choice. For example, a 50-year service life for thin sheet products is easily achievable.
Fossil-Free Steel in the Future
Already now, 70–80% of thin sheets are manufactured from more environmentally friendly steels. We will offer 100% fossil-free steel in the future.
100% Recyclable Steel
When the product’s life cycle finally ends, all steel is one hundred percent recyclable. Did you know that steel is the world’s most recycled material?
Sustainable Development
As a pioneer in the industry, we carry out continuous product development work for the benefit of our customers. As a result, for example, a 50-year service life for thin sheet products is easily achievable. We are environmentally conscious and willing to learn and change our operations in an environmentally friendly direction. We act responsibly from an environmental perspective, actively monitor and support the development of environmentally friendly raw materials, and continuously improve our own operations that take the environment into account.
Environmental Awareness
The quality system we have built and developed together defines our operations from supplier to customer, including purchasing and procurement, design, warehousing, sales, manufacturing, and delivery logistics. The system is based on the requirements of the ISO 18001:2015 environmental standard and its key quality management principles.

Weckman Steel Oy uses the best available technology (BAT) and knowledge (BAK) that is economically feasible to minimize the environmental impacts caused by production.
Energy consumption and its harmful emissions are reduced by investing in fossil-free energy sources. The circular economy is promoted by minimizing waste generation and material waste in manufacturing, warehousing, and transport, as well as when designing product packaging materials.
Weckman supports improved air quality by minimizing carbon dioxide and other production emissions in the planning and implementation of its own operations. In logistics, we strive for optimal load planning and full loads. Environmental friendliness is taken into account when selecting the company’s vehicle fleet and external transport companies.
Environmental responsibilities have been defined. Staff are trained to be environmentally aware employees and consumers. Environmental awareness is also widely communicated to various stakeholders.
