Load-Bearing Structures for Construction

Load-Bearing Structures

Weckman manufactures safe, CE-marked profiled sheets and steel purlins for building frames and roofs.

Load-bearing profiled sheets W-70/900, W-115/750, W-130/950, and W-155/840 can be used as load-bearing structures in upper and intermediate floors, roofs, and walls. Load-bearing capacities up to 9 m spans. Due to their high load-bearing capacity, they can even be utilized as concrete formwork. Perforations are available for W-70/900 and W-115/750 profiles to reduce reverberation, for example in sports halls.

The versatility of steel enables innovative and responsible solutions in construction and industry, as it is a durable, long-lasting, and recyclable material.

Weckman Anti-Condensation Coating and Purlins

Anti-Condensation Coating

Weckman anti-condensation coating provides effective protection against moisture forming on the underside of the roofing sheet; no separate underlayment is required. The coating is suitable for roofs with a minimum pitch of 10°.

The material used is PES fleece mat, which is bonded to the underside of the sheet during profiling. Weckman anti-condensation coating has excellent absorption capacity, 900 g/m² (water) on a horizontal surface.

Installation/Handling Instructions

Anti-condensation coating is available for the following profiles:

W-20R/1100
W-45JR/900
W-70/900
W-115/750
W-130/950
W-155/840 (spray-applied anti-condensation)

Purlins

Steel purlins (Z and C models) are used as secondary supports in ceilings (Z) and walls (C).

Products CE-marked.

Z, C, and U Purlins

Purlin models Z, C, and U
Base material hot-dip galvanized steel S350GD+Z (EN 10147)
Base material thicknesses 1.2–3.0 mm
Purlin heights 100–300 mm

Self-Supporting Sheet

Self-supporting sheets are a modern and versatile building material that has gained popularity, particularly in the manufacture of lightweight and durable structures. They combine the best properties of steel and other materials, offering excellent strength and longevity compared to traditional building materials. In this article, we examine the characteristics, advantages, and applications of self-supporting sheets.

What Is a Self-Supporting Profiled Sheet?

A self-supporting sheet is a specially designed steel sheet whose shape achieves maximum load-bearing capacity while providing maximum effective width (= the width that one sheet covers laterally). Thanks to its design, the profiled sheet is capable of bearing the structure’s own weight and the load placed on the profiled sheet, such as the weight of thermal and waterproofing insulation as well as external loads, e.g., snow and wind loads, without requiring separate support structures such as beams or frames. Self-supporting sheets/profiled sheets have at least hot-dip galvanization of 275 g/m² on both sides as corrosion protection. More demanding climate exposure classes can be achieved by selecting a colored profiled sheet with paint coating in addition to the steel’s hot-dip galvanization.

Advantages of Self-Supporting Sheets

Lightweight and Durable Structure Self-supporting sheets are significantly lighter than traditional building materials such as concrete beams or solid steel structures. This reduces the overall weight of the building and facilitates installation, as the sheets are easier to handle and transport.

Fast, Easy, and Safe Installation Installation of self-supporting sheets is quick because they do not require separate temporary support structures during installation. This can significantly speed up the construction process and reduce labor costs. Sheets can be installed directly in place, saving time and labor. Additionally, due to their large coverage, for example, a roof can be quickly enclosed, which in turn enhances safety.

Corrosion Resistance and Long Service Life Since self-supporting sheets are manufactured from at least hot-dip galvanized steel, they offer excellent protection against corrosion. This makes them particularly suitable for outdoor use and demanding weather conditions. Long service life and minimal maintenance requirements make self-supporting sheet structures a cost-effective option in the long term.

Environmental Friendliness Self-supporting sheets are manufactured from steel, which is a 100% recyclable material, resulting in minimal environmental impact.
In the future, recycled steel and fossil-free steel will be used in the production of profiled sheet raw materials.
