The advantage of a standing seam metal roof is that it requires no holes to be drilled for fastening. The metal sheets are attached to the roof battens with fasteners and clips that remain inside the seam between the sheets.

Roof penetrations such as chimneys and ventilation cones can be seamed to integrate seamlessly with the rest of the roof metal. Roof safety products such as walkways, ladders, and snow guards are attached to the vertical seams of the standing seam metal roof without breaking the roofing.
