Adaptability is an important part of functional and sustainable building design. Adaptability prevents construction waste and environmental impact from new construction, as the design phase can significantly influence how buildings and structures can be reused. Adaptability also seeks modularity, meaning the building can be converted for different purposes easily, simply by moving partition walls.

A building constructed from Weckman’s steel elements can be easily disassembled, as bolted connections, including foundation connections, ensure easy dismantling. The building can, for example, be resold or erected in another location more easily than a building made of wood or concrete.

Steel as a Building Material

Steel is a durable material. When used correctly, it ensures a long service life for the finished building. The technical service life of Weckman’s steel buildings is a minimum of 50 years.

Steel’s winning characteristic is undoubtedly its great strength. Thanks to its strength, steel differs from other building materials such as brick, concrete, and wood. Steel components are also lightweight compared to concrete, for example. Surface-treated steel structures do not emit or absorb impurities or moisture.

Steel is also an environmentally friendly building material, as it is increasingly manufactured carbon-neutrally and is 100% recyclable. The strategy of major steel mills is to produce 100% carbon-neutral steel in the near future.

The proper quality of Weckman’s steel structures is ensured by design carried out in Finland according to Euronorms and manufacturing in accordance with EN 1090 certification. Durable and Versatile Building

Due to its modular structure, Weckman’s customized building is versatile and therefore also long-lasting. Thanks to its adaptability, the use of Weckman buildings is not limited by its existing structure or size, as the size and functionalities of finished buildings can be modified afterwards if necessary.

When usage needs change, a steel structure building can be
– expanded
– thermally insulated completely or partially
– fitted with sliding doors
– equipped with high and wide door openings and windows.

The building’s dimensions can be designed according to its intended use. Weckman’s steel beams enable long spans, so door openings for even large machinery can be placed on the building’s long wall. Offices and social spaces are also part of the Weckman building package.

With Weckman’s CE-marked and lightweight sandwich panels, an insulated partition wall can be installed in a finished building, dividing the space into cold and warm sections.

Custom Buildings

Metsä Group built the world’s most modern sawmill in Rauma. Heinolan Sahakoneet supplied dryers and related load transfer equipment to the sawmill. Weckman supplied covered steel structures to Heinolan Sahakoneet for the project—a massive building whose size is “equivalent to several football fields.”
