The Weckman Story

In 2022, Weckman celebrates its 60th anniversary. Explore our history in detail below.

1750

The Weckman story begins in the mid-18th century, when the first Weckman products were created as a result of blacksmith activities.

1900

The blacksmith generation’s activities continued from one century to the next.

1955

The first heated factory hall and cold storage space were built.

1955

Tractor trailers were manufactured from used truck and bus frames for agricultural use and timber hauling.

1962

Weckmanin Konepaja Oy was established.

1962

Weckman trailers have been exported to South America, among other destinations.

1967

Production of the first roof profile, the W-2 corrugated sheet, which is still in production today, was started.

1969

Industrial production of tipper trailers was launched following a cooperation agreement with a central distributor.

1971

Export operations began with tipper trailers to Sweden and later to other Nordic countries and Europe.

1974

Employee housing was built near the factory.

1978

As steel roofing production grew strongly and formed an increasingly larger share of turnover, new production facilities with raw material storage were built for roof and wall panel production.

1981

Production of self-supporting steel frames for storage halls intended for agricultural and industrial use was started.

1981

To promote export trade, a marketing company was established in Sweden.

1981

The first robot was introduced in steel component manufacturing. The same year, production of composite panels was also started.

1983

A roof and wall panel profiling factory was established in Iisalmi.

1985

Production of brick pattern panels was started. Their popularity has remained strong to this day.

1986

On May 23, the company experienced a major catastrophe when the trailer manufacturing plant was completely destroyed in a fire. Already in November of the same year, the inauguration of a new modern trailer factory was celebrated.

1986

A majority stake in Levypyörä Oy was acquired. The same year, the company received the national Entrepreneur Award.

1990

Export share grew strongly in the 1990s, and with this growth, the company name was changed to Weckman Steel Oy in 1997. The current owner generation became owners through a generational transition.

1990

Weckman delivers customer-ordered products quickly and reliably with its own continuously renewed fleet of vehicles.

1999

At the end of the decade, the company was granted ISO-9001 quality system certification, which guarantees the high quality of roof and wall products.

2000

During the 1990s and 2000s, the company has implemented several significant construction projects at the factory site to expand production and storage facilities.

2003

Production of the highly popular Elegantti standing seam roofing panel was started.

2005

A solvent combustion plant for the paint shop was built, which has significantly reduced environmental impact.

2008

A pellet heating plant was built. It replaced oil heating in large factory halls, significantly reducing the company’s carbon footprint.

2010

As demand continues to grow, the factory continuously renews and expands its machinery, enabling the production of competitive products.

2012

Weckman Steel Oy celebrated its 50th anniversary.

2014

Production of the new self-supporting profile W-130/950 was started.

2015

ABB robot for trailer side and component manufacturing.

2016

New Progantti standing seam line in Vierumäki. New ridge accessory production line. Commissioning of trailer equipment hall expansion.

2017

Three new welding robots for trailer production. New Progantti standing seam production line at the Iisalmi factory. New ecological Greencoat coatings introduced for roofing products.

2018

Eight new production lines for Weckman Group’s JHW-Profiles factory in Germany.

2019

Design of a trailer range based on sustainability and efficiency initiated. Thermally insulated halls added as standard products to the building product range.

2020

2020 The company’s entire enterprise resource planning system is renewed. Weckman Steel Oy’s largest single building delivery to industry in its history.

2021

New steel purlin production line is commissioned. Renewed trailer range launched to the market.

2022

60th anniversary year.

2023

The first roof panels made from recycled-based SSAB Zero™ steel are profiled at the Vierumäki factory. Watch the video on YouTube here.
